Teacher, Rata Room (Preschool)

Brief info

Kia Ora, ආයුබෝවන්,

I’m Amasha Vithanage. I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Sri Lanka and now call New Zealand home with my husband.
I am passionate about early childhood education and feel privileged to be part of a profession that nurtures and supports tamariki during their most important years of growth and development. I hold a Higher National Diploma in Primary and Montessori Teaching, along with a Certificate in Child Psychology, and I am currently studying towards my Level 7 qualification to become a fully qualified teacher in New Zealand.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in creating warm, respectful, and meaningful relationships with tamariki and their whānau. I believe that every child is unique and capable, and I strive to create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident to explore, learn, and express themselves. My background in Montessori education, combined with nearly four years of teaching experience overseas and almost three years in New Zealand’s early childhood sector, has strengthened my commitment to fostering independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

I enjoy incorporating arts, crafts, and creative experiences into my teaching, encouraging tamariki to use their imagination and express themselves in meaningful ways. I feel honoured to be part of the Mt Wellies Preschool team and look forward to building strong connections with tamariki and whānau while supporting each child’s unique learning journey.
